Guidelines for Handling Personal Effects

In the wake of the recent flooding, many sacred personal items have been found along the Guadalupe River. These are not just things—they are remnants of memory, identity, and deep love. Please follow these simple, respectful steps to ensure they find their way home.

What to Do If You’ve Found a Personal Item After the Flood

Found on the Guadalupe is available to meet with you, pick up items, and process them with care.

We have a respectful, organized system in place—so if you come across something, especially something personal or identifiable, we’d love for you to reach out first.

That said, if you don’t have a way to get the item to us, this is our best and most comprehensive guide to help you care for it.

  • Drop it off at the ReUNite center ( by appt) for FOUND to process /or CLEAN and Preserve yourself

  • Photograph & List on FOUND on the Guadalupe River Facebook page

  • Reunite with owner/ or schedule a drop off at the ReUnite center

1. If you find a weapon, driver’s license, credit card, or anything that could be linked to a crime or pose danger:

Do not keep or transport these items on your own. Contact your nearest County Sheriff’s Department or local fire station immediately, and they will take it from there. Law enforcement is under immense strain at this time, so please be patient with response times.

2. If the item is clearly connected to a camp (labeled with names, tags, initials, or identifiers):

You may send the item directly to the appropriate camp contact:

• Camp Mystic

Kate Thompson

2689 Hwy 39, Hunt, TX 78024

• Camp Heart of the Hills

Joellan Barker Mullen

2430 Hwy 39, Hunt, TX 78024

• Camp La Junta

Scott Fineski

1661 SH-39, Hunt, TX 78024

• Camp Camp

515 Skyline Dr E, Center Point, TX 78010

If you do not feel comfortable leaving your item with a guard or are concerned it may be lost in an evidence pile and never returned, please know: we are here to help. Reach out to our admin team, and we will ensure the item is delivered safely and respectfully into the correct hands.

3. For all other found items (clothing, journals, photos, jewelry, shoes, etc.):

Please take a clear photo and post it to our Facebook group:

Found on the Guadalupe River

With over 50,000K+ members, the likelihood of reuniting items is high.

4. If the item may belong to someone who is missing or confirmed deceased:

Please do not post it publicly.

Message an admin directly. We will work with you to ensure the item is handled with sensitivity and care and that the family is protected and supported.

5. If you’re unsure what to do or need help making a reunion:

We understand. These items can be emotional, sensitive, or difficult to place. If you need help mailing, delivering, or navigating where something should go, reach out. We have a respectful process in place to assist you.

We are deeply grateful to a private benefactor, who has generously offered to cover the cost of shipping and delivery to help families receive what belongs to them. Their support has made it possible for us to move quickly where formal systems have been slower to act.

Thank you for showing up. For caring. For honoring the sacredness of small things.

This is a ministry of presence, of remembrance, and of love.

Warmly,

Dondi and Deanna
